I think something else is going on besides the corruption/non-corruption of the .shx.
I have one user who is experiencing this same thing where the preview is displaying in a simplex font, but the file IS found (no warning triangle) and in the correct support path. There is only one copy of the font on his machine and it is where it should be (which is a "trusted paths"). As part of a company script, all of these fonts in that location are refreshed from a network resource to the user's local c:\.. path every morning when they login. If the font was corrupt, about 50 users would be having the same problem instead of just one. This font is used EXTENSIVELY my many users with no problems.
I've noticed something odd which leads me to suspect there is something at the users profile level I'm missing. As a workaround I had him set FONTALT="." (none), and the font displays correctly in the drawing environment, but still not for the "preview" in the STYLE dialog. I cannot replicate this on any other users machine (mine included). I'm working on having him compile a list of the individual drawings affected to run them through John's solution above.
Anyone have any more ideas?
