Reset World view to match Current view

I have a question that I can't find an answer to online.

I have imported a .dwg survey drawing into Revit and somehow managed to rotate it slightly before modeling my entire site and building at the wrong angle.

When I reloaded the survey into the drawing it came in at the correct angle and everything is off angle.

In order to correct it I would need to rotate all my geometries in Revit which I really don't want to do as I know it's going to create glitches and gremlins with views, joined elements etc.

So what I would like to do is rotate the original survey drawing in AutoCAD to match the incorrect angle then reset the World view so that it links into Revit correctly.

As it stands I can change the UCS so that it is parallel with the "incorrect" and it imports correctly however the World view is off angle which means that North is not perpendicular to the X axis which is not correct practise.

Is there a way to tell AutoCAD to change view the World view and in doing so reset/reposition the origin and the angle of the UCS?

I attach screen shots to help illustrate what I am trying to do.

It is difficult to see if you know how to manage correctly the UCS command.

But I have several advices to give :

  • Under Mac, I suggest you visit the third menu named VIEW, then VIEW again and SCU Icon. Here you can decide if the UCS shows it real position (if possible, zoomed out enough) or not. [Your menu is available if you type MENUBAR = 1.] On PC, we do it in the properties palette when nothing is selected. Can't remember if available on Mac.
  • You can type PLAN then double ENTER at any time, it resets the view making X horizontal as a UCSFOLLOW variable to 1 would do.

I think my answer n°2 is what you are looking for. Tell us.

Try WBLOCKing everything out to another drawing [whether you delete or -- safer -- retain everything] when you're in your non-World UCS, getting back into the WCS [whether in the same or -- safer -- a new drawing], then INSERTing the drawing that WBLOCK just made.

Hi thanks for your response.

I have tried your suggestions and didn't manage to achieve what I am trying to do.

Some further googling has confirmed that it is impossible to change/move/reset the WCS though which I think basically pours cold water over what I am trying to do.

Thanks for the attempt to help me though.

Hi,

True, you can't modify the WCS.

If I'm understanding correct what you need you might try the following steps:

  • Open your drawing
  • Use command _UCS and set the rotation of the UCS in that way you want to have your (theoretical) WCS.
  • That all layers and turn all layers on.
  • Use command _COPYBASE with basepoint 0,0,0 and selecting all your objects in model-space
  • Create a new drawing
  • Use command _PASTECLIP again with point 0,0,0

...nowyour project is inserted in WCS like you have previously defined your UCS, save that drawing and try now to use this dwg-file with Revit.
