I am trying to install 2018 windows autocad on my 2017 MBP using parallels. I am running windows 10 through parallels. When I download 2018 autocad I receive a message saying it can not install because my device is not supported. I am enrolled as a student in a CAD program and need the windows version for this class. Please if anyone could help with this issue, it would be amazing. Thanks!

HI @Anonymous,
I see that you are visiting as a new member to the AutoCAD forum. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!
I have 2018 running on my Windows 10 in Bootcamp. Is that an option for you? I have not seen the Parallels error before.
I will check to see if there are any other cases reported.

Hi,@john.vellek
I could setup windows 10 through bootcamp on my 2017 MBP. Then try the 2018 autocad install there and hope it works. Was trying to avoid bootcamp and use parallels, as I heard that it ran pretty smoothly on there and I wouldn't have to reboot each time I wanted to use OSX. I would like to use parallels preferably, but if no solution is found I will go the bootcamp route and hope for the best. Thanks so much for your quick reply!

HI @Anonymous
Let me know if the Bootcamp works for you. Which OS are you using? I am wondering if this is a High Sierra related issue.

HI @Anonymous,
I apologize, you showed me the OS in your first post.
I haven't used Parallels in quite some time. Can you show me the settings you have used to set up the Windows installation? I curious to see what the install determines is not adequate.
Another thought, have you considered the AutoCAD for Mac pre-release Beta? It seems really solid on my Mac and might be a good interim way to get up and running until we figure out the Windows version for 2018.
I also wonder if AutoCAD 2017 for Windows will install successfully. You could try a download of that from the Autodesk Virtual Agent.

I am new to this and not sure if I understand the question correctly. However, these are the settings I have for windows 10 through Parallels. Hope this helps. If not I can try to find more settings or my process of installing windows on Parallels.

Hi @Anonymous,
Can you try changing the resolution on Graphics to Scaled and see if DirectX11 is available in the 3D acceleration?

I changed the graphics to scaled and gave the same error. DirectX11 is not available in 3D acceleration. Only DirectX9 and DirectX10

Hi @Anonymous,
I am guessing that this error is because the Windows AtuoCAD installer is seeing the Mac OS and not Windows. I looked at the support page for Parallels and it appears that you can isolate Windows from the the Mac OS. See if this article from the developer's site gets you further.

Hi @john.vellek
I tried everything in the article. Isolated windows etc. I then tried completely uninstalling parallels and windows and reinstalling them and starting from scratch. Still same error message. Just says my operating system doesn't meet the requirements. Even though I am running windows 10 64bit.
This is the exact version of windows I am running through parallels: Windows 10 (Multiple Editions), Version 1703 (Updated March 2017) 32/64-bit (English) - Microsoft
Is this correct?

HI @Anonymous,
Just to clarify, is your Windows 10 64-bit? If so, then make sure you have grabbed the correct version of AutoCAD (64 bit). If you are trying to install the 32 bit version it will give such an error message.
If all versions are correct then I would personally create a Bootcamp partition and install there. If you are still getting errors there then something else is going on. If it does work in Bootcamp then Parallels should be able to convert the Bootcamp partition.

Hi @Anonymous,
Since you are continuing to have problems getting the install to work in Parallels, have you tried the Bootcamp option? I am hoping this method will yield better results.

Hi @john.vellek,
Bootcamp partition did the trick. Everything installed smoothly. Thanks for your concern and time resolving this matter!

HI @Anonymous,
I would start by getting High Sierra installed and running. It can take the entire drive volume.
When you install Bootcamp it will allow you to adjust the partition size to accommodate both Windows and the existing MacOS that you just installed. <Here is a nice tutorial on getting Bootcamp installed>
If you are running AutoCAD 2018, you should probably start with a Windows partition of at least 64 GB's. Which version of Windows are you planning on installing? The age of your Mac might dictate which one you can use. AutoCAD 2018 should run fine Windows 7, 8.1, 10.
Please let me know if you have specific questions on this install.

HI @Anonymous
I think the old MacBook might not really have the capacity to run it well enough to be usable.
The SSD will speed up the OS as well as program loading and drawing open and save but it will not likely make too much difference in your work unless you Autosave very frequently.
For the cost of upgrading either of these, can you find a newer and more robust Mac for similar cost? I am guessing you might find a 2013 MacBook Pro for pretty cheap.
