AutoCAD 2017 very slow print preview & print

This particular user has an issue with very slow print preview / printing. Doesn't matter what size the drawing is. We tried a couple different ones. If he clicks to plot, chooses to hide the legacy, and then clicks on preview - it takes almost 3 minutes for the preview to come up. We timed it!

6 month old computer. New install of AutoCAD 2017

Xeon 2 core 3.5Ghz

Windows 10

64GB ram

Nvidia Quadro M5000 video card

I have tried the exact same drawing on an older computer, also using AutoCAD 2017 - same process and it takes about 25 seconds.

What we have tried:

  • using the older version of DirectX
  • updating the video card drivers
  • running all the autoCAD patches
  • making sure all windows updates are run
  • turned off video acceleration
  • made sure only one video card was enabled in Device Manager
  • Emptied the temp folder

Anything else I should look for / try / change?

Note: we have approximately 30 people with similar setups and he is the only one having this particular issue. The Win7 computers seem to work better for some reason. maybe its a Windows10 setting somewhere???

Thanks in advance!!

Hi,

Which plotter driver?

>> I have tried the exact same drawing on an older computer

It might be the plotter driver on the other system works better?

Which operating systems do these 2 computers have installed?

What happens if the plotter is set to use "DWG to PDF.pc3", and then do a print peview?

Plotter driver is the HP Designjet T770 HPGL2 - downloaded/installed from Windows Update

The slow machine has Windows10, the faster one has Windows7

I cant try the DWG to PDF option at the moment. But that wont really help him because he needs to plot the drawing. But I will say, when he prints to his little ink jet printer its much faster, but still takes longer than on the Win7 machine.

Please avoid using drivers from a Windows update (as long as others are available), either use the HP driver for that plotter or the HP universal driver >>>like that<<<.

But it would help to isolate the problem!

Currently we don't know if the reason is the workstation, the operating system, the plotter/driver or the AutoCAD profile.

If "DWG to PDF.pc3" creates a faster result then we can concentrate on the plotter/driver (as it's not AutoCAD and not the operating system).
