Randy, good day.
Within the default autocad options, not only in the 2018 version, you have values that you must change so that it does not happen (I still wonder why?), But it is about changing a value.
In the Options window (OP command), Open and Save tab, change the default value from 50 to 100, each time you save your entire work will remain. (Point 1)
Below, as a precaution, check Automatic Save (10 minutes is good time) for an automatic save, be aware that this saved is not done on the file or in the location where you are working but in a temporary folder and with another type of extension.
And, check also BackUP that will create a file of identical name and of similar size to the one that you are using but with extension .bak, this file changes or it is overwritten every time that you use save. In case some vex your .deg is damaged or lost, you have this backup so you do not lose your job, so if it becomes habit to save frequently ... much better. (point 2)
And finally, if the bak does not retrieve what you need, you'll have to resort to the .ac $ times that you will not save more than half for the very low percentage of saving.
It is not normal for autocad to close frequently, unless it is the file you are working on that generates, it may be defective or it could be damaged, however, although it closes unexpectedly, you should save much more than you say if you do the settings.
I hope I have been of help, if you need anything else I will be attentive.
Regards,
Johanna Esteban
