if i understand your need right ... yes you can by doing the follow:

  • make a new layer with a transparency value (0-90) from Layer command.
  • set TRANSPARENCYDISPLAY value = 1 .
  • attach your image over the new layer with transparency. (it supposed now to see transparent image)
  •  you can control Background Transparency from proprieties dialog (Ctrl+1) and after select the image.
