Need Help with 3d Surftrim command

Hello everyone. I am new to the forum and I was hoping that someone could help me out with an issue I am having.

I can not seem to get the surftrim command to work on the object I am drawing and it is quite frustrating. I have seen several videos on youtube on how to use the surftrim command but I still can not get it to work with my drawing.

I have attached a drawing of the 3d object that I made. It is an automotive switch and another "testing" surface consisting of a slab and a couple of solids incorporated into it. I have tried the surftrim command on every object but it still will not work and I don't know why I am having this issue.

The error I keep seeing after selecting a object is "not valid object type" I am not sure why my 3d solid is not a valid object.

Can anyone help me out please?

Thank you.....

Hi and Welcome to AutoDesk Forum,

SURFTRIM command trims portions of a surface where it meets or bisects a curve, region, or another surface. and you have only 3D SOLID objects which it's different of surfaces object, for that this command will not accomplish your need at this 3d solid object. i suggest to use SUBTRACT command HERE that will serve your 3d solid objects.from RIBBON you can found commands for SOLID and SURFACES (see image below)
