how can I make a Chassis layout

Hello, I just started working with AutoCAD today and Im trying to figure out how to make a chassis layout for a rover. Im not sure if I can make it 3D so I can see where my components need to go. If anyone can help out that would be great thank you!

You can make it 3D in autocad. I'm not super familiar with plain autocad 3D, but I know you can only really draw on a 2D plane. So what autocad does to get around this is with the axis. You can rotate the x,y,z axis to whatever plane you want to draw on. So you are still only drawing in 2D at any given point, but you put the drawing together in 3D.  It's a little confusing at first if I remember from playing around with it. It's like the matrix, "there is no spoon. You are rotating yourself around the drawing rather than rotating the drawing" haha

Sorry I couldn't be much help. Finding a you tube video or two would probably help you out more than someone trying to explain it. It's kind of hard to explain without seeing it. Try to find a video with actually someone talking to explain it rather than just a video with music in the back ground. I hate tutorials like that. I would try to draw something much simpler first to get the initial hang of it before you try your rover, so you don't get frustrated.

Its going to take a bit to get from a fresh start to a chassis.

I would check out: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2015/ENU/AutoC...

HI @Anonymous,

I see that you are visiting as a new member. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

What are you starting with? Do you have some images you could attach? The Community is excellent at providing assistance for such things.

AutoCAD is quite capable of 3D modeling and the chassis should be a task that can be handled by it.

Hi @Anonymous,

Did you get started on this project? I haven't seen another post from you so I thought I would check back to see if you still need some help with this.

hello I have been looking into other programs that could help since the drawings would have to be drawn in 2D I have found that solid works will be easier to do this. I was asking professors and came to this solution Thanks!
