AutoCAD 2017 we have, and we save all .dwg files on 2010 file format.

but it will auto save on upper version. We cant able to open that file save in upper version.

we always save in 2010 format. Why it saves in upper version file format??

Rculp: "In your OPTIONS dialog box under the "Open and Save" tab make sure all users have the "Save as" ACAD 2010."

Even though that option is there. It does not convert newer objects and features. You still get the message that the files contains objects created with a newer version. IMHO, that option should be removed or fixed. That is why converting the files with your chosen method is the proper way to do it.
