Hi John,
This issue started on a Windows 7 machine I would estimate 1 year ago. It has persisted with a fresh installation on a brand new Windows 10 workstation. Both installations were fully updated to service pack 2.
I suppose there are two separate issues:
1. An error window appears when attempting to sign in from inside of Autocad. The error is simply a window that states there is no internet connection after clicking 'Sign in'. AutoCad runs normally save for issue #2 below.
2. It appears that AutoCad's attempt to hit an Autodesk server for information (Exchange? License validation?) is causing the computer and all programs running to hiccup...freezing for approx. 10-30 seconds. Recently (last month or so), this hiccup appears to disconnect any open drawings from our company server, resulting in the open file being locked as 'read only' upon automatic re-connection, with a 'save as', rename, original file delete, 'save as' file rename to remedy this.
I cannot pinpoint exactly when the freezing began, and I was able to sign in at some point in the past 24 months, but not anymore. My department has just sort of 'lived' with the problem, blaming the company network for the hiccups until the locking of files as read only began.
I hope this makes sense! I'm a bit fuzzy on the exact timeline...as I said, our network is quirky, and easily the scapegoat for issues when they arise. Our old hardware wasn't ideal for CAD work. With our new workstations (2 weeks old) and the issue persisting with a fresh installation on only our machines, and only when AutoCad is open, I think we isolated the problem.
