Another desktop  niggle that has been around for a while at least back to version 2013 is the 3D orbit crash bug (it is triggered by holding down the shift key and while holding down the middle mouse button to rotate, zoom and pan).

There are many many dozens of posts around the net and on this sit on various possible ways to fix it. so no point in elaborating much here....

I do know that it happens on both my work computer (64 bit win 7) and my ASUS I7 Laptop at home. And I can confirm if you use the 3dOrbit Icon on the classic desktop it almost never happens. this applies to both machines. I presume this also applies to the ribbon although I have not tested it.

A lot of the work I do is Automation design..... Lots of linked files

As you can see a lot of files All 3D objects.

If I forget and orbit with the shift key / mouse method I am almost certain to get a crash on this project. Using the 3D icon it is fine

This bug is less likely to show up with smaller files........

The reason for mentioning this here is the public AutoCAD 2016 new feature list states that regen is now automatic, and line quality has been improved, rendering too.

It would be wonderful if the shift key / mouse method of orbiting works again.

When working the Left hand rests near the shift key and the Mouse is in the right hand, Having to make a Mouse trip to an icon slows your progress. this is something you do many hundreds of times a day.

Has anyone tested this feature with AutoCAD 2016, does it now work?

John
