I am inserting my signature to the drawings using .TIF image. When I turn the transparency on - the background shoes up (FIG-2). THis signature was made by one HP Scanner several years ago. However, I got a new scanner and when I create .tif image and inserted on the drawing - it blocks the background FIG -1(See attached PDF drawing). I inserted the new tif on Word and it worked fine. I am not sure what is happening with my new machine or I am doing something not correct.
I had a scanner from Zerox and I had that for a year or so. When I created .Tif image with that machine - I got the Fig-2 condition. Previously I used use old HP Scanner and that gone bad.. So I gone out today a got a HP Scanner but with the same result. If this is the norm - then I will return the HP Scanner.
When my drawings goes out for Bid - I sign those drawings with date. I create a signature with date for each project and insert them on the drawings.
Can anybody enlighten me about this problem and what corrective action I may take? I have tried Jpeg and bmp without luck.
My scanner settings are B & W, document, .tif or gpeg or bmp

Hi,
there are more than just one possibility, most likely the color type of the image, if it's
- bitonal (that is just a black/white image) ... this is the easiest way to get the background of an image transparent in AutoCAD
- 8bit or 24bit image, then a real white might be used to be transparent (depends also on the version of AutoCAD you have
- 32bit image, so the image contains an alpha channel, but don't know if the scanner see's white as transparent.
First try to save the image as bitonal (or "blacl/white") ... if the scanner software can't do that you can use some free software like IrfanView to convert your image to black/white. If that does not work then please
- let us know your AutoCAD version number
- scan some linework (not your signature
) and upload this image so we know what your scanner ships as data and we can give tips how to do with your raster files.

I tried to make another sample for you. I inserted using a layer white color and it worked. I just tried with a layer having a different color and that worked too. I have a feeling in previous TIFF scan even though I started as B & W - it turned to default to color and that is why I was getting back ground. This time I was careful. And it worked.
Thanks a million.
