Using layer states in named model views with xrefs
Hello,
I am wondering if there is a decent way to use layer states with named model views. Example two model views of a floor plan with all of the layers turned on, one for floor plans and one for ceiling plans. I have been able to use the layer states on the "mother" file and reload the xref into the appropriate view. Update layers in the view dialogue box and toggle to yes for layer snap shot. I can get it work so that I can toggle back and forth between the two views fine, but the issue is that when I close it and open it again all the xref layers are frozen. so i have to pick and choose the ones to turn back on..... which defeats the purpose of using layer states in the first place.
I believe this is because the toggle for layer snap shot is yes (which is weird), but i cant get the views to hold the layer state without it.
I am trying to use this method because i am doing a project with multiple floors all xrefed into "annotation" files.....pointless to create layer states for each floor because i cant change the xref layer name independantly of the "mother" file..... or can I?
I figure if there is a way to do this properly it could certainly save a LOT of time over the course of a career!!
Thank you for the help!

Have you checked the variable VISRETAIN?
It should be 1 before closing the file.
