Hi,

>> it tells me that cannot use my HP Design jet 500

Please show us an exact message about that, I can't believe that AutoCAD tells you "you cannot use the plotter" ... without any details.

Also let us know:

  • which version of AutoCAD are you using
  • which service-pack for AutoCAD is installed
  • which version of HP-driver do you have installed
  • which operating system are you using

>> it was working fine before

...before what? What changed, what is different to "it was working before"?

I have the same problem from autocad 2009 when ribbon was made with our ploter HP design Jet 4500,

autocad was doing someting with ram , i have it 46GB but still wont help on autocad 2016

I found out,  if have only one empty drawing open with this one which I want to plot then autocad move to empty drawing whene is something doing.

If still dont found ploter, then i close and open again autocad, or restart computer.

I install new ploter - universal  Print driver HPGL and sometimes work, sometimes not, with this driver I dont recomend to plot tiff,... because it is missing

parts of drawing.

In autocad 2006 was possibility that you minimaze autocad and cpu of ram was again on 0,  I am searching solution 8 years about it.

Is it windows 10? We had tons of issues with our HP designjet 500. One of the work arounds is to print every thing to a pdf then print the pdf on the plotter.

HP support is terrible. You might as well ask a tree outside for help instead of them. The help will be similar. Their end solution was that plotter was old and I should just buy a newer model.  HP forums are much less helpful than these forums as well. My forum question got 2 replies. One said I put a space in "design jet" and it didn't have a space and the other asked what plotter I had. It said what plotter in the subject line and probably 5 times in my post. doh
