AutoCAD 2017 Crashed over 18 times on me within less than 8 hours
Yesterday I was using your product and over the coarse of less than 8 hours of use it had crashed on me more than 18 times yesterday January 4, 2017. I wasn't using any ridiculously large files and my computer has an Intel Core i7 6700hq, 16 GB of DDR5 Ram as well as a Nvidea GTX 1060 with 6GB of dedicated graphics so I highly doubt it was a spec issue. The crashing had occurred while performing multiple functions including but not limited to zooming in and out, editing blocks, switching objects from one layer to another and copying objects from one file location to another. I had been having these issues since before the 3rd of January and a lot of them were mentioned as being fixed with the AutoCAD service pack 1, released on the 3rd of January, 2017 but after downloading and installing it had no noticeable effects and the crashing may have even gotten worse or at the least was just as bad as before. If you would be able to suggest a solution that would be awesome as i need to catch up on some work today that i wasn't able to get around to yesterday whether it be revert to an older more stable version of AutoCAD or re-install the newest version and the service pack. but either way a speedy response would be very much appreciated as your customer service dept. made a Tech. support ticket/case for me saying the tech dept. would be able to help me over the phone and instead i was directed here after waiting close to 24 hours for a response.

It had been crashing before I had installed the service pack and I had done so this morning but it has already crashed twice since posting. I am just saving constantly. Would you suggest an older more stable version? I understand im using the most recent version and its bound to be buggy.

Hi,
why not just following @Patchy's first suggestion?

- Try to determine if the error is file based or program based. I realize that can be difficult if you're on the clock. But you may have a corrupt file (or files) that is causing it. Don't forget about checking your Xrefs and if this is Civil 3D, data shortcut reference files also.
- Make sure you have ALL of the service packs and applicable Hotfixes and other patches installed.
- Make sure you are running a supported video card and that you are running a supported driver for it (which may NOT be the "latest" vendor driver).
- Empty (and keep clean) your %TEMP% folder.

again all of my drivers for my hardware are up to date and there is more than enough power there that anything that would stress it should just be eaten up with no problem. But either way here is one of the files i have been working on.

Hi,
i suggest to do the follow attempts:
- Purge and Audit your drawing.
- disconnect any devices connected to your PC (if any).

I said that i had already done that and it had still crashed twice since i had originally posted. Also i am pretty adept and use it for architectural applications but i am by no means an expert with using AutoCAD and i do not mean to come off as sneuty or anything like that any help is greatly appreciated.

Too many hatches can slow down, freeze and crash. It's worth a try to change your HPDLGMODE to 1

What level of support did you purchase, if any?
Did you purchase direct from Autodesk of through a reseller?
Many resellers offer direct support, with access to insiders at Autodesk.
- Here are the various Autodesk support offerings.
- You may be able to schedule a time for Autodesk Support to call you

If no time to wait for support, try these (maybe you already have ☺)

If not, turn off LINESMOOTHING and LINEFADING variables (explained in HELP).
If these do not help, start GRAPHICSCONFIG command and uncheck all the boxes on that pop-up.
Your posted file is fine, it's not causing any crashes here in R2017.

... turn off HPDLGMODE variable (set it to 0, that's a zero). Any better?
I don't even work with Hatching that much and I set HPDLGMODE to 1 on day 1 of an install (not ZERO as you have above)
Thanks for mentioning that also @Patchy
That one setting has the potential to wreck a user experience - I suppose I understand why it's enabled OOTB, but in anything other than a very simple drawing, it's going to kill performance, especially if the machine is at minimum specs, or below.
