Depending on what the drawing represents and how it will be used [obviously this will not always be viable for purposes of the drawing on its own], consider making all the objects in it ByBlock in color. Then you can give it, when Xref'd in, a color either by the color of the Layer you Xref it into, or with a color override, and all parts of it will be the same color.
