From your question it sounds like you might actually be working in AutoCAD Electrical. Is this correct? If so, a connection means something different than what vanilla AutoCAD uses for blocks. We can move this thread to that forum also.

 

Typically, in vanilla AutoCAD users can snap to a variety of points on a block using OSNAPS. Another common tool is ti add a POINT to the block so that if the OSNAP is set to NODE then the location of the point is selected.
