One thing you can do is to remove the filetype association for opening .DWG files when double-clicking in something like Windows Explorer.  It will vary somewhat with your operating system, but you should be able to right-click on a file name, choose Open with and possibly go a level further down with something like Choose default program, and un-check the button that says something like "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file."  Then, with no program associated with .DWG files, every time you double-click on one, it should ask you what program you want to open it with, and you can choose the version of AutoCAD you want to use -- make sure that "Always use..." button is un-checked every time.
