The .lin file does not matter.
The .shx file needs to live in a place that AutoCAD can find it, so do this:
* Make a new folder like C:\CADSTUFF. Put the .shx file in there
* Go to OPTIONS in AutoCAD, under the Support File Search Path, add the path to C:\CADSTUFF. Move this path to the TOP of the list.
* You can put the .lin file there too if you want.
Now shut down AutoCAD and restart it.
Your linetypes should be okay now.
