Subject: RE: Regarding [CaseNo:11999500.] How to Prevent blank Drawing1 from opening when starting AutoCAD by picking a dwg

Hi Volker,

Thanks for the info. When I set the Startup variable = 1, and try to open a drawing by double clicking a file via Windows Explorer, the “Open a drawing” dialogue box appears and I have to click on “OK” to continue. The good news is a new drawing (drawing1.dwg) was not opened.

Why is the “Open a drawing” dialogue box appearing when I’ve already selected the file to open? I shouldn’t be hassled with this dialogue box each time I open an existing file by double clicking it.

How can I suppress this dialogue box from opening?

Looking forward to your help.

Thanks again,

Jeff

Hello Jeffrey,

My name is Volker, I am an AutoCAD specialist on the Autodesk Technical Support Team, your Service Request has just been escalated to me.
My understanding is that you are running AutoCAD 2014 on the Windows 7 64 bit Operating System and you wish to know how to launch AutoCAD without a new drawing (drawing1.dwg) opening when double-clicking a file via Windows Explorer.
Thank you for contacting us. This can be achieved by setting the STARTUP (System Variable) to a value of <1>.
Please let me know if this helps or if you require additional assistance. I'll look forward to hearing back from you.

Best regards,

Volker
