Am I in the wrong workspace? I can no longer draw 2D!

I have a schematic block diagram DWG I have been working on.  It is simple 2D: rectangles, lines, text, hatches, and blocks.  I work in the the Drawing and Annotation workspace and everything has been fine.  Well, I messed up - I think.  I was curious and fooling around with the 3D Basics workspace in this same block diagram DWG.  Drew a cylinder and box, not much else.  I then deleted the 3D objects and went back to the Drawing and Annotation workspace.  Now my subject line is a little misleading, YES, I can draw 2D.  And even though I am in the Drawing and Annotation workspace, my selection grips are now UCS looking compasses, my zooming acts odd until I change my perspective, and my wipeouts are no longer working.  I am completely baffled as how to get my drawing back to a plain 2D environment.

Someone please tell me what the heck is going on and how to fix it.  Thanks, B.

Try _-view then top in the command line. Let us know if it fixes for you.

A circle is the locus of a cursor, starting and ending at the same point on a plane in model space or in layout such that its distance from a given coordinates (X,Y) is always constant.

The view is already in the Top view, but I entered the commands anyway.  No change.  About the best explanation is that the drawing acts like it is in the 3D workspace, but supposedly is in the 2D workspace.  I have tried changing back forth between the workspaces several times now.  Drawing still acts 3D.

Also, I have opened this drawing in both AutoCAD 2016 and 2017, each on different PCs. The drawing acts the same in both versions.

I think the solution is to change SHADEMODE to 2D.  You can type that at the command line, or use the Viewport Controls at the upper left of your graphics screen in AutoCAD (assuming you have those displayed), etc.

If something I wrote can be interpreted two ways, and one of the ways makes you sad or angry, I meant the other one.

Shademode to 2D did the trick. Not sure how the drawing got hooked on whatever mode it was. Thanks!
