Graphics issue after applying ACAD 2016 Hotfix 4
Hi everybody,
I'm the IT assistant on a company. We have 3 computers with AutoCAD Civil 3D 2016.
All have similar config.:
- Core i7
- 32 GB RAM
- NVIDIA Quadro K620
- Windows 10
- All computers are using 354.56 NVIDIA Certified drivers
After applying the latest Hotfix 4 for AutoCAD, we noticed graphics problem with images inserted in the DWG files like this:
The issue is even worse when you zoom it.
We tried to uninstall and reinstall the Software, applying Hotfix 4, but problem remained, even with a fresh install.
Due to an urgent work delivery, we had to inmediately uninstall and reinstall the Software, but only with the Hotfix 3, and everything went back to normal.
They are production computers, so there's no much time to do additional test.
Any clues? The Hotfix 4 is only two days old.
Cheers, thank you in advance and sorry for my english.
Jorge.

Unless you need Hotfix #4, I'd say congratulations! You've solved your own problem! You should notify Autodesk with a Support case.
The Nvidia drivers need to be those listed on the Autodesk Hardware lists, and not the latest versions.
Or maybe the Nvdia card is too weak for your purpose?

Same problem here, any ideas on how to correct this without full reinstallation?

Of course, we're using Hardware list drivers.
And, the changelog it suposed to fix two problems we have:
- Crashes when opening using Windows 10
- Copying and pasting a block
The NVIDIA card it's okay. The files aren't too hardware demanding.
Now seeing we're not the only ones with this problem.

HI @Anonymous,
Have you tried adjusting the Graphics Performance options to see if they improve the issue?
Also, this might be a more Civil 3D related issue and I would be happy to move the thread to that forum if you like. I doubt that this is the case but moving it might get better response.

I tried various different settings under the graphics performance settings, none of which helped. I also tried a installation repair with no change. I have since reinstalled the software without this hotfix. I will be less likely to install anymore fixes/patches though the desktop app without further investigation of these types of issues.

Why do you need to be so close to the bleeding edge of technology? Do these Hotfixes benefit you in some way? New things should be safely tested in case they compromise your workflows. Windows 10 is quite new also. It shouldn't be assumed that anything new is 100% bug-free.
From a serious point of view, your comment is unacceptable.
- We expect from a company that charges thousands of dollars for their Software a minimal QC for their updates. in fact, the damaged update it suposed to fix one error; instead, it broke other things
- Windows 10 is one year old (12 months) and currently holds 20% of the market: more than 300 million devices have it installed, most part because it was free for the first year
- Even worse, a program called Windows Insider allows users to try and provide feedback since beginning of 2015
And, the worst thing of all:
- AutoCAD 2016 was launched on 2015, more than a year ago, and this is the fourth Hotfix
So, this is anything but "new".
Instead of post useless comments, I think you should moderate yourself. This is a forum where people are asking for help or advice, but in a good manner.
Thanks anyway.

Advice is the cheapest commodity in the Universe. If it was me I wouldn't bother with this 'forum' nonsense but I'd be straight onto Autodesk and Nvidia directly. If I was also engaging with this forum I'd be a bit more liberal with the details, and show a bit more patience with the obvious questions. No-one here owes you anything.
There's been plenty of things that Autocad 'should' and 'shouldn't' do since forever. If you keep sulking about it you'll never get anything done. But why should I complain, eh? However, getting ratty with people that freely give the benefit of their experience (which is what you need) doesn't really serve your cause.
You know and I know that you shouldn't deploy updates without testing them first. You have chosen to be guinea pigs. If I were you, I'd set up 2016 on a Windows 7 box and get on with my day.

Hi Jorge,
Despite all the "Dicsussion" in this thread
I am glad that you were able to get back up and running quickly despite it being a painful process. If and when you decide to try the patch again I would like you to try the newest drivers for your graphics card too. Driver certification is only a "Point in time" as Windows updates and others can invalidate a certified driver quite easily. Another option to try is to disable all the "AERO" type features temporarily to see if that too makes a difference.
I have been looking for other reported cases of this issue with 2016 on Windows 10 and have not yet found any so I am hoping that this is an isolated situation.
Thank you for your patience

I can report that we are experiencing the same issue in our office with the hotfix. It's not an isolated incident.

Hi @Anonymous,
Thank you for your contribution. Are your images ECW per chance? I have logged a bug with the development team regarding this issue and any additional detail would be helpful such as workstation specs, graphics card driver, exact AutoCAD version (use About), sample files, etc.
Thanks for your patience!

Hi John!
I have opened a supportcase (no. 120442251) with our german support. Mr. Piser from support could easily create the graphic issue with an ecw-file, I sent, on different workstations with different graphiccards and therefore logged a bug with the development team.
At this moment the only solution is to deinstall hotfix 4.
Thanks for your interest, ecw-files are our most common ones and working with this bug ist not possible.

Hi @Anonymous,
The Update 1 for subscription AutoCAD 2017 customers fixes this issue. (At least the version of the update I have seems to fix it for me.) This update is scheduled to be released shortly.
I have submitted a request that this be considered for a fix for 2016 customers as well.
I will continue to monitor this and update the thread as I learn more. Thank you for your patience.

I really think that Autodesk can provide us a better service.
Isn't that the point of a 'suscription service' instead of a perpetual standalone license? Continuous support?
Hotfix 4 reported as buggy on July 19th. We are almost in NOVEMBER. No fix.
Unacceptable, John. I apreciate your help but we're stuck on this!
