Saving DXF file with entities
Hello,
Some of my dxf files are being saved without any entities. If I convert to json format and open them up in text editor and scroll to entities I find entities is open as such:
"entities": []
Has anyone dealt with a situation like this? This may not be a common issue but I will appreciate any help or guidance.

Hi @Anonymous,
I have not seen this issue before. Do you receive any kind of error when you do the dxf creation?
Can you walk me through your process and also include both a drawing file and the DXF that you create from it? I would like to see this first hand in order to give you some assistance.

Hello,
I have found that entities for a dxf file are generated when dxf file contains simple geometry such as lines and circles. I will attach two files, one with entities and one without due to it being made of a solid rather than lines. I will now like to know how can I read 3DSOLID, SOLID, or MESH information (point corners, direction, etc) from a dxf file?
I am using an open source parser to better read the dxf files: https://github.com/gdsestimating/dxf-parser

Hi @Anonymous,
I am trying to better understand what you are trying to do.
In one DXF file you show a sphere that has been exploded into 3dlines. In the other dxf file you show the same sphere as a 3d mesh.
I am uncertain what you are trying to get from one or the other file. What are you trying to do with the DXF file information?
Please give me some more detail so I can try to assist you.

Does that format support the object types your DXF file contain? That's usually what stops a conversion from working.
You probably need to contact the FREEFORMATER developer direct with your question about their product http://www.freeformatter.com/json-formatter.html at freeformatter@gmail.com

Hello,
Never mind about converting to json format. That is actually arbitrary to finding the real solution here. I am writing a program to read a dxf file line by line and extract information about the object. For example, the X, Y, and Z coordinates of a mesh are given in a dxf file under "AcDSubDMesh" followed by the group codes with each coordinate. I am able to generate a point cloud with the coordinates of the mesh edge points however I cannot find any information about face connectivity in the dxf file. Where can I find this information?
I have attached a dxf file as a txt file.

I am starting to realize that there may be information of the point index plus the corresponding vertex index within the dxf file under "AcDbSubDMesh":
90
3
90
60 (Possible point index?)
90
1 (Vertex index?)
90
0 (Vertex index?)
90
3 (Vertex index?)
90
60 (Face index?)
90
2
90
1
90
3
90
60
90
3
90
2
90
3
90
60
90
4
90
3
90
3
90
60You may notice in there sphere mesh object that there are points at the bounding edges that connect with multiple faces. This may explain the repetition of the 60's. I took this snippet from the txt file attached earlier. Where can I get help for decoding a dxf file to such detail?

Hi @Anonymous,
It looks like you are on the right track. Here is a DXF reference that might help you and another here
