As all participants said, you need to create the objects in 3D (not just 2d) then use viewbase to generate all the views and sections you want..

 

Notice that you could have easily built the objects in 3D from the start: box instead of rectangle,cylinder (or cone or sphere) instead of circle, polyline + extrude for irregular shapes.. some add and subtract to create solid and void..

Of course there are some much complicated geometries and techniques - but that doesn't seem to be the case..

 

The message you see is because your file doesn't have any 3d objects, so Autocad is asking for a file from Inventor..
