We are looking to migrate AutoCAD files from a file server to SharePoint Online (Office 365 Cloud). There is concern over the pysical migration of databases becoming corrupted or unusable. We know there are issues when migratig AutoCAD files to the cloud presumably how files are internally connected to one another and those connections breaking. Does anyone have a experience in the area and can share some insight?

Wish you put SHAREPOINT in the title of your post: it's likely not get the attention it deserves with your current generic title.

Hi @Anonymous,
It looks like you have an interesting challenge ahead of you. Your migration will not likely see any corruption if you have a solid Internet connection but I would be careful to make sure that you have policies and practices developed and documented before you do this procedure. Have you been using a Local Sharepoint database to do this until now? If not, I would certainly run a pilot to make sure that file transfer speed, xref paths, recoverability , etc. are all taken into account before moving everything to the cloud.
Since AutoCAD saves the entire file and not synchronizing at a bit level you will see quite a bit of bandwidth being taken up.
Please see this prior post for some more insight.

have there been any significant updates since this thread went dark?
I ask because of our firm's using OneDrive/Sharepoint Online for our active filesharing. So far so good. It’s been about a month.
one thing we’ve noticed though is OneDrive doesn’t sync files from our main software program – AutoDesk’s AutoCAD LT – quickly enough leading to coordination challenges. That, and my staff can open a file at the same time and start working, which is not how we’ve developed our internal ways of working. Locking OneDrive files/signing files in and out via SharePoint does not solve this challenge.
We’re hoping faster internet (upgrading later this month) and Files On Demand OneDrive featue will help with above.
Thanks for additional input.
Steve

For AutoCAD, but not LT, you can purchase this plug-in for Sharepoint functionality in the program https://apps.autodesk.com/ACD/en/Detail/Index?id=2982286123668227035&appLang=en&os=Win32_64

Hi,
is there a solution to the question available in the meantime?
I have the same problem. We want to migrate connected .dwg files from Fileshare to Sharepoint Online. As the storage location (link) will be changed I assume that the links will not work after migration.
I am looking for a solution that the .dwg files will be connected after the storage location changed. As we have several thousands of drawing a manual solution is no option. We are looking for a solution that fix the issue azutomatically, for example by giving the old and the new path to the application and then it should replace the links in the connected drawings.
