Texture map "Sample size" units do not match system units.

Hi. This is something that happens both in 2016 and 2017 versions of AutoCAD. It did not happened in v2015.

Seems that the texture map sample size has to be entered ALWAYS in mm, independently of the drawing units. That makes constructing and editing materials quite annoying.

In order to reproduce the problem:

1.- Set drawing units in meters

2.- Make a 1 meter x 1 meter 3DFACE

3.- Create a generic material with an image

4.- Set image size 1x1 and apply material.

The result is as follows:

texcoordsAcad1.jpg

As you can see, the material mapped on the 3dface is completely purple, since this is the colour of the botom left pixel of the texture image. The material sample also shows lots of small repetitions on its geometry > It seems that Autocad is considering that the image size is 1mm x 1 mm.

It has ignored the system units.

5.- Now set Sample size to 1000x1000  The result is.....

texcoordsAcad2.jpg

It confirms the bug. In order to an image to appear 1 time in a 1mx1m face, the sample size has to be set to 1000x1000 . As a confirmation test, you can write in the sample size box  "1 m" and it inmediately gets converted to 1000.8   (it is not even precise enough with the conversion... 1000.8?)

6.- Now set the units to inches.... nothing changes in the material.

texcoordsAcad3.jpg

In AutoCad 12015 a change in the system units automatically changed values in the Image sample size. Now it just ignores it, so the user is forced either to work in milimeters or face continuous problems derived from this behavior.

Can anyone confirm this bug or give a solution for the problem?

  Thanks in advance.

Hi luis.hernandez,

I can confirm that there is something strange going on with units. Even with units set to meter and measurement set to 1, I see in my drawing, that the units are displayed in inches! I can enter 1m (for one meter) and then it displays 39.37 inches. While I could live with this, my precision is set to four places and not two. I will explore this some more.

Hi,

even if that is not the best solution, but at least an option to continue to work :cara_guiñando_un_ojo:

Within the material-editor ==> texture editor you can enter the units now into the position and scale settings, so in case you enter the value including the untit-shortcut:

1000m

it accepts really 1000 Meter, just the display changes it back to inches and shows then 39370,08in

The good point on that: you can enter 1000m, the bad on that is if you just want to check the value you have to convert the units.
