Hello,
I have always been able to draw (or trace) a pline over an existing object and then be able to select that line.
Similarly when creating a boundary set, and the resulting p-line is by default on top of the "old" set of lines. Simply click on the new boundary and you are good to go.
Somehow the selection feature has been changed so the new lines are sent behind previously drawn lines. This is getting very frustrating. I can use move/last but I should have to.
I’m not sure if this is a system setting or not.
I don’t think Draw Order is the answer, as this just moves lines.
I am using AutoCAD 2014, installed on my computer by the IT guy.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris

HI @Anonymous,
I believe that you should explore the DRAWORDERCTL command. It has settings of 1, 2, or 3
I hope this rectifies the issue for you.

Is there perhaps a Z-drection settings not being observed in the file(s)? OSNAPZ variable in effect perhaps? Does REGEN or REGENALL fix the display and thus allow you to select your newly drawn object?
How would DRAWORDER not apply: wouldn't it move the object you don't want from the top to the back?

None make the change.
Thanks.

Usually the last thing you draw (or insert) is on top unless you have something helping it get pushed to the back. True for AutoCAD2014 and higher and lower.
Yes, this is the issue I'm trying to fix. There has to be a system default for this.

None of these fix the problem.

Draw order defeats the purpose of having a default that puts the last draw line on top of the "traced" lines.

HI chris06anna,
Does this happen always for all drawings? Does the new entity appear on top in the display but not be the first one that is selected (thinking selection cycling)?
Can you attach a file in case it is dwg specific?
When did this start happening? If you do a AKN Article reset to defaults does it correct the issue?

Yes all drawings. The new entry only appears on top when tracing, but moves after I try to select it.

Sorry, I can not attach a file.

This has been happening since I received this computer. I am not familiar with AKN Article.
Thanks.

What is SORTENTS set to?
When this is set to 0, it behaves like you say.
When I set it back to 127, it works like you are expecting.....
