Backwards Compatibility?
Hi everyone,
I'm having an issue with being able to save a file from AutoCAD 2016 and opening it in AutoCAD 2014.
I work as a technical consultant at a company in Dekalb, Illinois and we've ran into a slight issue. My boss is running AutoCAD 2016 on his desktop, and one of his employees is running AutoCAD 2014. The issue is we can't find a way to save a file from the 2016 version for the employee using 2014.
I've tried using (File > Save As) and also (File > Save As > DWG Convert)
Does anyone out there know a good way to do this?

Go to OPTIONS and on the Open and Save tab in the top left corner you can set the version of autocad you want to save to by default.
if you all set this to the same version that is suitable to all you should be fine.

It shouldn't be necessary -- the file format is the same from 2013 to the present, so someone should be able to open a drawing made in the 2016 version with the 2014 version. Has the 2014-version person tried just opening the 2016-version drawing, and failed, or are you just assuming it needs to be back-converted? If they have tried and failed, could there be something else other than the version difference about the circumstances that may be causing the problem?

RECOVER or RECOVERALL commands may help if the actual issue is file damage.

Mixing AutoCAD variants in a single office is usually troublesome except with experienced users.

pendean,
How would you do that? Is it in the save as menu?
What pendean said is right.
Alternatively, you can simply enter "export" without the quotation marks in command line.
This is one of the great advantages for using AutoCAD. Simple and straightforward.
- You may also explore the HELP menu for all AutoCAD commands.
BTW I use Mech version all time but rarely convert drawings for non-Mech users.
Did you try "save as" then in the long list of "File of type" choose "AutoCAD 2014 drawing (*.dwg)"?

A circle is the locus of a cursor, starting and ending at the same point on a plane in model space or in layout such that its distance from a given coordinates (X,Y) is always constant.

Yes, we've tried using the save as feature to save the 2016 drawing as a AutoCAD 2014.DWG format. However that still comes up with the same message (This file was created with a newer version of AutoCAD) and the 2014 user is allowed to open the file but not allowed to save or make changes to the drawing unfortunatly.

There _IS_ no AcadCAD 2014 dwg format. The last and latest DWG format was 2013 -- which is the same DWG format as 2014, 2015, 2015, and 2017.
It sounds like your friles are infested with AEC objects from verticals, Post an example..
