Autocad inherits Windows shortcut name
v2014
Due to the length of our network project paths, I have a projects folder with folders for each project, and in the project folder, I have windows shortcuts to the various folders I need to access.
The problem I'm having (actually, this problem has been around for a long time) is this: if I want to do a saveas and navigate through my projects folder, as soon as I hit a folder that is a shortcut, the File Name field in the Save Drawing As dialog inherits the shortcut name.
I can't think of another app that does this. They all ignore the shortcut name, only inheriting the name of any file that is selected.
Is there a way to change this annoying behavior?

Kind of expected it would be the same. When there was the "Wishlist" forum, I posted the same question.
I imagine that it would be an increadably simple programing excercise to correct this oversight: if = shortcut.lnk, ignore, else populate File Name field with filename. It already ignores actual Folder names.

Actually, this is a Windows issue, not an AutoCAD issue.
When you are doing a Save As from, let's say Word, if you click on any file name or shortcut name, it will change the name of the file being saved. Try it.
Not here.
Word, Excel, Google Earth, Firefox, Chrome, Adobe Acrobat Reader, all behave normally and the file name does not change.
AutoCAD - click on a shortcut and the file name changes.

I am not disputing that it happens in AutoCAD.
I have a document called daily work.docx.
Here is the screenshot of doing a Save As from Word, and clicking on a desktop shortcut (to a website in this case) that changes the name, attached to this post.
This file has nothing to do with AutoCAD.

But it does NOT happen in Word (or any other apps that I mentioned).
Note that I enter a name, then change to two subfolders, and then to a different folder via a shortcut.
In no case does the file name change

You are correct, the Word filename does not change when clicking on a location shortcut (I thought it did), but as you can see from my example, clicking on a shortcut to a website, for example, does. That was the shortcut I tested.
My apologies for not testing a location shortcut.

I don't know of a way to change the behavior but there may be another way to get around the problem. Rather that creating shortcuts to your long network folder names have you considered creating a named network share for the folders?
