Layer States help

OK

First time posting, our Cad Manager left and Im the stop gate for now, I work for a medium sizeproduction builder and here is the road block:

I need to add a few layers to our cad standard template, we use layer states for the entire template. the problem is when I go in to the dialog box - add the layers to the appropriate layer state - freize /alow to show it deosnt function correctly. I have tried to research this but info is vauge.

am I to add all the dnew layers to each layer state then frieze/thaw?? this is how it seems set up to begin with.

Any help would be wanderful - I am up against a huge deadline and our drafters are working with out a complete template.

Thanks for your consideration.

Sincerely, Paul

Hello Paul and welcome to the Forums!

After it is created, when you edit the layer state in the Layer States dialog box, you should be able to set the options (Freeze, Off, etc.).

If that is not the case, can you please send us a screenshot or Screencast of the issue?

Hi Paul;

I can't see the top of the window, but capture2 appears to be the Edit Layer State dialog box, where you can make changes to an existing layer state.

So the workflow is:

1. Put layers into the state you want them displayed (some on, some off, a couple frozen, etc.)

2. Create a Layer State from that configuration

3. Give it a name describing that configuration (Wiring, Piping, Walls, etc.) and put in a short description if needed

4. If you made a mistake, or decide you want to make a change, edit that Layer State and make changes to fit what you want displayed

I recommend you watch the 2 Youtube videos (thanks jporter!) as they are both good instructional videos for how to use Layer States.

10-4 working thru this with a bit of guidance all seems to be functioning correctly - some of my issue was the first state (ALL ON) didnt have the new layers I created / added and working.

Thanks all so much.
