Linking attributes using fields across multiple drawings

Is there any way to link attributes of blocks across multiple drawings using fields.

I have been able to link attributes of blocks using this: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-forum/link-attribute-to-block-with-multiple-attributes/td-p/8...

And while I can also copy paste it onto another block in another drawing it isnt able to properly save the link and thus upon reopening the drawing the link is broken.

Is there a way to remedy this?

Hi,

Can you give us the details of the exact order you are working on?

Ofcourse.

I'm working on a project involving multiple drawings/diciplines.

In this Project we have blocks with names like "CAM-03" and this CAM is referenced across multiple drawings.

It can happen that CAM-03 suddenly get renamed and thus this needs to happen across all drawings.

Instead of doing this manually across all drawings I want it to reference one drawing and take the value from a singular point.

@jonathan_nutma To my knowledge there is no way to do that with normal autocad. I think autocad electrical has that function because Wire Numbers run across multiple drawings and when you rename a wire on one page, it is critical that that same wire gets renamed identically across all other pages.

I've also heard of autocad addons that perform this function as well.

My information might be out of date though since it dates back at least 10 years...

Not an option across multiple DWG files.

"CAM-03" in your example probably needs to be a stand-alone DWG file that is an XREF into everyone's drawings for that one(?) project so the changes to it become available in all of your drawings instead. That's how all of us deal with content like that.

I have found a solution but it does require an addon from https://www.cadig.com/products/autocad-field.php

Basically this allowed me to get a field from the content of a cell from an excel sheet.

This way I was able to link it all together.

It sadly does cost money but I'll have to to talk to my manager about that
