Houston, sorry, I'm a Dallas fan but.... glad to help.
Funny, never ran into this before and was fun to play with.
I knew it had to be an Association issue for you so Mr. Google helped out.
To Disassociate a Dimension:
At the Command prompt, enter DIMDISASSOCIATE.
Select one or more dimensions to disassociate and press Enter.
If you type that in and pick your dimension it will disable the association with the end points of the rectangle/square, circle, what ever and never change to match what you just took away, the end points like Mr. Cooper said. Strange that I could not find this command inside the Properties when I select the dimension.
The great thing about this command, it is only for the one you select. Not a full time command you have to go back and forth with. If I was you I'd put in in your ACAD.lsp or ACAD.pgp command and make it shorter or a Pick box on screen.
