When I open a particular drawing, only half of the screen is used.
Other drawings use the entire screen.
Restarting the software and laptop didn't help.. any sugestions?

You also want to ensure your AutoCAD is fully updated, your ABOUT command in the program should show 2023.1.5

Since it only happens with this one dwg and not others try running the Audit command. Or open this dwg using the Recover command to see if that makes a difference

Maybe you need to set it to one viewport:

Thanks for all the help! I switched to 2 Viewports and then back to 1 and it's OK now.

Thanks for posting this. I ran into this problem on a new DWG file recently. How the problem occurred was, I used the WBLOCK command to extract linework from a drawing with modelspace split into 2 viewports. When I opened the new block, the linework was on the left half of the view area, and the right half was just "dead" - no viewcube, and no way to interact with that side of the screen. So it was like having 2 viewports, but not quite.
Using the +VPORTS command and selecting "Single" did not fix the problem. But selecting 2 or more viewports, and then setting it back to single, did fix it. This worked from both the +VPORTS command, and the View menu.
