bak files in temp folder
I have several PC's that periodically save ".bak" files to the "C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp" folder in addition to the ".bak" file that the ".dwg" is in. I have a new Worksation that does not. I would like to make this workstation like the others, but I cannot find a way to enable this feature. After some reading it seems that this may not be an intended feature of AutoCAD at all.
I am using windows 7 with Auto CAD 2016.
I have attached a picture of an example of one of our .dwg folders on the server (this shows the .dwg file and typical.bak file location)
I have also attached a picture of the tempfile (with the additional .bak files and sv$ files)
Does anyone know how to enable this feature?

A double-edged sword: it's best to get in the habit of manually saving more often.

Apologies for the delayed response, I have been out of town for a few of days.
I talked to personnel in one of our other offices this morning regarding this issue.
They informed me that our antivirus may be deleting all files in the "temp" directory daily.
I am going to create a different directory on the local drive labeled backup and remap the "automatic save file location" to see if this resolves this issue.
I will keep you posted on whether or not it works.
Thanks for your assistance on this.

I believe the "temp" folder BAK files are a result of AutoSAVE kicking in because you're not manually saving often enough.
Correct. Autosave works like a regular save in this regard. The first time, a .sv$ file is created. The next time it fires, the .sv$ file is renamed to .bak and then a new .sv$ file is created.
IOW - the .bak files in the %temp% location are your autosave files, one version older than the corresponding .sv$ file.
