Can't thank you enough for the comprehensive reply, this has indeed been a triumphant moment for me.  It appears to be simply the SDI Mode setting that I'd overlooked.

I actually load 1022 Lisp files - have written routines for Intelligent P&IDs and Pipeline Alignment Sheet generation - seems crazy but it works and I don't have the hassle of recompiling a new VLX whenever I make a change.  Also find it so easy to track down my functions (all ascii) - I'm sure most would disagree but works for me.

Currently using "AutoCAD 2019 Version Q 104.0.0 AutoCAD 2020 1 2" (to me just 'AutoCAD 2019')

Tried (setvar "LISPSYS" 0) but that generated an error?

Setting SDI to 1 and LISPINIT to 0 has solved the issue (after many years of just accepting it) - Thanks again for the help.
