AutoCAD file names/revisions in Docs
Firstly apologies if this is in the wrong forum, i couldnt not see a Docs specific one.
My company is interested in utilising Docs for our file storage but as a smaller company with little exposure to Docs and BIM360 we are are confused as to how to properly name/revision them.
As we see it, when a Revit/AutoCAD file that are loaded from docs is published/saved, the Version number in Docs automatically syncs and updates, increasing the Version number.
Our confusion comes to keeping track of versions and revisions, for example if our revit model with file name Job Number-Identifier-100-Construction Block Plan was on internal revision P01, was saved and published numerous times throughout the day as it was worked on (but not internally up reved), the Docs Version number will increase every time, putting it out of sync with our internal revision numbers. This issue seems to be even more apparent with AutoCAD files, as every time the file is saved the Docs Version increases (but we will still be on the same internal revision until ready to issue the drawing). If i save every time i do something significant as is my habit, i could be on Version 50+ by the end of the day?
Our second problem stems from this – if the Docs Version number is out of sync with our internal revisions, how do we know what Version is drawing revision P02, or P03, etc.
More than likely we are doing something wrong and we would really appreciate some laymans terms help on this issue.
