In the simplest terms, # refers to absolute coordinates while @ refers to relative coordinates. If you want a line to start at a specific grid coordinate and end at a specific grid coordinate you would use the #. I you want to move something 10 units in the x direction and 5 units in the y direction you would use the @ symbol.
