Missing Xref manager

There is no longer an Xref manager on my AutoCad LT 2012 program.  How do I get it back?  I need to detach an Xref & attach another.

though solutions on this thread is for AutoCAD Architecture and more current versions, you may want to give it a go:

Not sure if that link applies since I believe the OP refers to Xref Manager which is the External Reference Palette and not a dialog box window like ClassicXref

I have attempted to perform each of the various solutions you have forwarded, but to no avail.  I recently did a full "Uninstall" and then reinstalled the program from the CD.  The program no longer looks like what I was used to.  It is also missing the connections to the custom printing configuration files I had been using.

When I opened a drawing, I was able to perform ANY other task, but when I typed "XREF" & hit Enter, I again got the dreaded "Fatal Error" message & the program closed, with the request to send a message to the manufacturer.  I am kind of tired of seeing that message.  When I tried to do the suggested change to have the dialog box floating, I received the SAME message when I hit "Accept."

I realize that my 2012 program is no longer supported by the manufacturer.  It also seems that the people in the Forum who have responded are now used to the current iterations & not too familiar with a program from a decade ago.  I am guessing that a recent upgrade from Windows 11 has caused my problem, because it has worked so well up until this month.  Windows 11 has been on my machine for about a year now.

Is my ONLY solution to "Lease" a current version of the LT program so I can continue to do my pro bono drawings as an aid to the local kennel clubs for their dog shows?  Living on Social Security does not give me much in the way of spare change to do that with.  Do you have any other suggestions?

Thanks,

O no you upgraded to the dreaded Windows 11 OS without first checking if the decade old AutoCAD version you are using supports this new OS. I’m surprised you were even successful in reinstalling such an older version on this newer OS and even activated this decade old program which Autodesk no longer supports. You can either downgrade back to Windows 10 or get another computer that has the older OS and install your old AutoCAD on that and hopefully you are successful in activating that there. Otherwise your probono work days are over at least with AutoCAD

As a person who is about to complete my 83rd circumnavigation of our solar system, I was not raised with a $1,000 computer in my hand at all times.  I have seen them used to amuse kids who were still in high chairs.  Their progeny will probably be born with them already attached.  I will admit to not being any type of tech "Guru."  I expect things to work like my grandmother's skillet - Forever!  Shame on Microsoft & the entire OS community for not making EVERYTHING backwards compatible.  Granted, the market for products would eventually become exhausted unless businesses could come up with ever more desirable & long lasting products.  However, THAT is the mission of most manufacturers, or it should be.

Just my thinking,

Yep, that's a troublesome combo. Ouch!
