Modifying 3D solids in AutocCAD

I am having difficulty understanding how AutoCAD allows accurate modification of 3D solids.

Using a simple example, when I create a 3D cube, AutoCAD allows me to easily adjust the height (highlighted in the picture "cube"), but won’t allow me to accurate and directly change the width & length.  Furthermore, when I add a feature, e.g a hole or radii, I can no longer adjust the height (shown in the picture "cube with feature").

With other CAD packages, such as Inventor & Solidworks, I can simply change a dimension contained in a sketch to modify geometry, but when I add dimensions to a sketch in AutoCAD, it doesn’t permit me to use them.

What is the correct procedure to accurately and directly change geometry?  Can I use dimensions in a sketch before changing it into a solid, & if so, how to do it properly?
