How do I reference Section Volume contents into Paper Space?
Seems like a simple concept. I used AutoCAD for many years, but have been out of it for about 6 years now. Was using Microstation. But now I am back in the AutoCAD saddle and need to figure this out if I am to push 3D to our design team here.
I created a 3D Section Volume using "SECTIONPLANE" and then turned that section plan into volume slicing through a portion of a 3D model, gave the SectionObject a name and would like to reference it and what it is sectioning into PaperSpace.
How is this done in AutoCAD? I cannot find any information anywhere online about how to do this. In Microstation, it was as easy as selecting the Section as a reference. But, I cannot figure out how to do this in AutoCAD.
The only thing I found was using "VIEWBASE" in Paper Space, but this brings up a window talking about project files that make no sense to me.

If I create multiple Section Objects Volumes across a 3D model, how does the viewport show just what is in a specific Section Object Volume?

This should be a simple thing. Let's say you draw a building with 4 walls and a roof. You have elevations inside looking at each wall, but you don't want to see the roof or what is beyond an open doorway or window. And you have sections through each wall showing it's construction components. You don't want to see the adjacent wall in the distance in these sections. How do you reference each of those sections into paper space so it can be printed for construction? This is like the foundation of every drawing ever created from a 3D model for construction. Drawing in 3D is fine and awesome, but really serves no purpose if you can't convey that information on a 2D drawing in a way that makes sense. I am super confused how AutoCAD deals with this. I don't want to break the model into 2D planes, as that voids the entire purpose of a 3D model.

bear in mind though autocad can do 3d it's really good at 2d. So there are no built-in commands in vanilla autocad to do what you want. But what I typically do to make it easy is to xref the 3d model into the sheet file where I plan to setup all these views. Then I can xclip the xref where I want the view, rotate the view into elevation and then do it again for the next view.

I didn't understand why you weren't satisfied with the ModelDoc views? Create on each sheet the main view of the model (ViewBase command), and then make as many sectional views as you need. Moreover, the main view can even be outside the printed area of the sheet. But it must be on every sheet - otherwise you can't build a section. And, of course, you should use a solid model, not some polygonal garbage.
So AutoCAD is a great program for modeling furniture, exhibition stands, promotional items, lightboxes and much more. Those who say that "AutoCAD is for 2D" simply do not know how to use it and use it off topic. Of course, it is not suitable for designing houses. Architects have their own add-on for AutoCAD and there are 100,500 more BIM programs. There is absolutely no need for builders to use pure AutoCAD. They already receive too much attention from software developers. Terribly unfair.
