Upon startup, AutoCAD loads default template into model space instead of paper space

My intent is to boot AutoCAD directly into a paper space layout in my template file.

Currently, upon boot AutoCAD loads the file into model space, however, if I click the QNEW button the file loads into paper space, as intended.

This is despite all workspaces being set to start on Layout.

Is this an unavoidable quirk of the AutoCAD startup procedure, or is there some way to get this working?

Hi,

I suggest to check STARTUP (System Variable) that may guide you for some thing.

Thanks for the reply,

I've tried all four options in the STARTUP variable, put none have changed the behaviour.

This classic old tip still works, give it a shot https://allaboutcad.com/open-autocad-with-a-specific-template/

Thanks for the suggestion, I tried that too but had the same result of the template file opening to model space rather than paper space.

Share your template file here for others to test with please.

My guess would be something in acad.lsp since it only runs on startup by default. If it called switching to Model Space it would only happen when AutoCAD starts up.
