Multiple Autocad Icons Opening....
Annoying problem that just started.
When I open an autocad file from windows explorer, windows (or autocad) is putting a second autocad "button" in the windows program ribbon at the bottom of my desktop. Everytime I open another autocad file it becomes available under this new button.
On the other hand. When I open an autocad file from within the autocad software, it does not create a separate button and if I open the next file from windows explorer it will open under this same original button.
Really don't like the two buttons showing up and moving around.
Don't want to have to browse for files in autocad first either..... because much easier to browse in windows explorer.
Anyone have a fix for this?

@payingtoomuch Post a screenshot of your entire screen here please so we can see hat you see: please have ABOUT command's pop-up open right in the middle of AutoCAD too.
OR... is this just a quick fix in your WindowsOS TASKBAR settings that you never implemented (or it got changed for you)

Wasn't sure which about screen you wanted.
Not the easy fix you referenced....
Two Icons. One at right appears when I open dwg file from windows explorer. this does not happen if open dwg files from within autocad. Note stacked icon at right for multiple dwg files open

When its opened from explorer its probably opening using DWG launcher. Change the default program to open the DWGS to you preferred version of AutoCAD.

Had high hopes cadnoob but no go. If I select drawing launcher or the application when in windows explorer still opens second "button".
Found this in a thread.....
Looks like others experience this. The strange thing is I don't ever remember dealing with this.
Interesting (and probably the reason why) is that over the past 20 years I've always launched autocad and opened from within. Now I'm using dropbox for a client and there are tons of files I have to filter through so easieer to browse in windows explorer on my vertical screen. So recently have started using that approach. Missed that this is probably why I've been scratching my head on this one.
Anyway, So the work around is not too bad.....
Launch autocad then browse for the file in windows explorer. At least I don't have to browse for the first file in autocads explorer... which I though I had to.

Is the first icon just a pinned application icon? or do any of the drawings actually go under that icon?
If its just pinned, I would just unpin it and you would only have 1 open when working with drawings.
to unpin right click the icon

Thanks for the screenshots - your ACA 2020 is not updated: do so now please, grab the update from your Accounts Page here https://manage.autodesk.com/products/ARCHDESK?version=2020&platform=WIN64&language=EINT
restart your PC afterwards.
You can just delete this one, it must belong to an old version you still have on your computer. Others showed you how to do that above

Tried deleting before (I think... don't remember which one I actually deleted but the idea was to start fresh) and it caused me all kinds of issues. Had to go back and resetup my template/ cad preferences.... because I didn't have a template saved.
Regardless, if I delete that one and I close out of autocad then both disappear and then I have no way to open autocad from the toolbar.

Do you see the same issue if you were to sign in using a different profile but on the same computer?

That's unfortunate: never heard of a task bar icon deletion doing much of anything to anyone ever, did you forget to close all of your running AutoCAD session first?
Do you generally have other issues in this PC not related to AutoCAD?
Don't forget your ACA2020 is not current until you finish installing that update I noted earlier.

Thanks for reminder about update.... missed that earlier.
But, went out to my account with link (which was kind of "broken" and through my account.
As best I can tell, no updates required.

I hear you on the deleting the "shortcut". Have no idea why it happened but it did.

Thanks for sticking with me on this....
No matter what I do I can't get the autocad architecture or the year tabs that are showing up in your screenshot to show up.
Note that I'm not on subscription but have a lapsed perpetual license... if that might make a difference.
Note also that when I select your link I get......
This.... which appears to have the tabs etc.....
BUT it ends up changing to this.....
So have no idea what going on.
