LISTS
Currently trying to work out the length of various lines that I have from a drawing and when highlighting them and typing lists, it doesn't bring up the lengths what is the reason for this.

What do you mean by "typing lists"? When I select/highlight a couple of Lines and type in the LIST command [is that what you mean?], I get this:
Do you get something different? Are you doing something different? Are they some other kind of object, and not actually Lines? [If so, LIST still reports the length of some other kinds of things, including Polylines and Arcs and Splines, and for some things under a different heading, e.g. circumference for Circles and Ellipses.] If they're RAYs or XLINEs, it won't report any length....

I assume you mean you want to see the "total" length of all the Lines you selected.
AutoCAD by itself does not have a command to show this.
