"Preferred" is a matter of personal preference, so expect to get unique responses to your post.
I've used two to three 30" (2560 x 1600) at various points.
I currently use a 43" (3840 x 2160) at home and my work setup is a 30" (2560 x 1600) and two 43" (3840 x 2160) monitors.
My "preferred" setup would be to replace my third (30") monitor with another 43" so they're all the same size.
The only thing that might be problematic for you are the high density monitors, where you have 4k or more in a 27" monitor or smaller size. Autodesk has made improvements to get the program to work with these monitors, but I don't know if they've worked out all the kinks yet.
I've looked at the Dell 49" monitor and thought it'd be really cool to have, but it had less screen real estate (vertically) than the double 30" monitor setup I was using at that time, and is far less than what I have now. I wouldn't get anything that has less than 1600 pixels vertically, personally.
