*.tmp File Question

Hi guys,  my autosaves are in 5 minute intervals.  Although my autosaves do generate a *.tmp file every 5 minutes, the files remain in *.tmp format and it takes 3-4 hours for one of them to be converted into *.sv$ that i can actually use to recuperate my work.

Can someone please advise ? Thank you

Those formats are generated separately. Autosaves are deleted automatically by default. Does that help explain it?

Most people change the extension to .dwg to make them usable.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

Hi Rob, i was under the impression that my *.tmp files were eventually converted into *.sv$. So yes that does answer the question. Thanks

This leads me to my next question: If autosaves are deleted automcatically, how can i make use of them? Is autocad simply keeping my most recent autosave while deleting the old ones ?

Any thoughts ?

One of the commonly misunderstood things about AutoSave: it's not meant as a record, it's meant as a last resort solution when AutoCAD crashes, is forced close or otherwise does not close cleanly.

If ACAD closes clean, it wipes the AutoSaves as part of its cleanup.

Best habit is to get into CTRL+S often and especially after a significant edit.
