One of the first issues to address in creating a geometric CAD model is how will the model be used.  Do you need a precise and accurate representation of a curve becuse you intend to use it to produce machining instructions or perhaps a 3D model to determine potential interference between parts of an assembly or maybe your final output will be a photrealistic image or animation.  For the latter, CAD systems conside Level Of Detail (LOD)  that automatially adjust the how much detaill is calculated and displayed as a function of the distance of the focus of interest as a function of the distance from the viewing camera.

What are the uses for your CAD model?  What will be the final output that will be provided and used by the end user?  Back in the days of manual drafting bolt threads were drawn to show each thread at the correct size and pitch.  This detail was often replaced by just a centerline and a note of the thread size and type.  In general, you should only provide enough detail that wil be needed by the end application.
