I came across this command by accident (typo). I can find no reference to it in the help file or on the web. Can anyone enlighten me?

See the attached image. It does (or did) appear to be a command... UNITE
renamed to JOIN? That is what is perplexing.

It's an alternative command name. There are others [for example, DELETE (spelled out -- not the Delete key) is not listed as a command name in Help either, but it works, giving you the ERASE command]. The command line shows the "real" command name you're going to get when you type one in:
But I haven't been able to find a listing of them, either, maybe because I don't know what they're officially called [except not "alias"] -- are they "alternative" command names? "substitute"? "equivalent"? "stand-in"? "proxy"?
