GPS coordinates into AutoCAD

Am I able to insert GPS coordinates into AutoCAD to superimpose over the available world map feature?

Thank you

Yes, but there are several factors you must address so your points are inserted correctly.

  1. You must determine which coordinate system to assign to modelspace. Every site on Earth has at least, if not more, two coordinate systems from which you may choose. Some coordinate systems use units of feet while others use meters. Some use neither because they use units of degrees, such as Lat/Long. If you  don't assign a CS AutoCAD won't know where to insert your objects.
  2. You must also determine the 'native' coordinate system given to the objects you wish to insert. All geospatial objects must have a native coordinate system. You are responsible to give it one or you may honor the native coordinate system of the author (provided you know how to look that CS up). If you neglect the native coordinate system then AutoCad won't know where and how to insert the objects relative to your 0,0 opint that you have establish when you assigned your coord sys.

In summary, there are two coordinate system: one for modelspace and a second one that's native to the objects.

You can consider the coordinate systems like  plugging in your radio. You can power your radio with 120 volts when you plug it into a wall outlet. That's fine in the USA but if you take your radio to Europe your hotel will likely have wall outlets at 220 volts. If you plug in your radio at the hotel, it'll get fried. (Of course, this is assuming your plug can 'fit' into the wall receptacle.) You'll need an adapter to drop down from 220V to 120V. Or you may go down to the gift shop and buy a radio that can handle 220V.

There are two voltages you must consider: one that your radio can handle and a second voltage supplied by the wall outlet.

Hi Kaali,
"Am I able to insert GPS coordinates into AutoCAD..."
What version of AutoCAD are you using? If Vanilla AutoCAD, then no. AutoCAD doesn't understand what to do with Latitudes and Longitudes. You need either Map 3D or Civil 3D.
