Files slow to boot with large number of ex. ref.

So upon opening old files at my work that have a large number of external references the file takes anywhere from 5-15min to load an function. Now if the external references are detached the file loads in about 10 secs. The file sizes are around 8-13MB. So my question here is, will upgrading my ram from 16gb to 32gb have an effect of the boot up of the files or no? If no then what could be causing this issue on my computer and not my bosses?

Hi,

this can have a lot of reasons..

One of reason we can check this way:

I think your files are on a network location?

Restart AutoCAD.

Use Open command to open the main file, look at the time.

Hiw much?

start etransmit and setup an etransmit package as zip,

Settings:

No bind option.

All xref files to the same folder.

Close ACAD

Unzip this ZIP in a local folder,

all files incl. xrefs are there.

start the main file from this folder.

Same time as the original file?

If yes.

Close ACAD, Export your custom setting (you know how?)

Reset ACAD to default

Start ACAD again open the local mainfile.

Same time as before?

Then Import your exported settings back.

Waiting for your answer

What is the productversion? (command About)

Yours and bosses

About RAM, check the taskmanager or resourcemanager to see what happen while open the file,

if ACAD need 50% of Ram and 50%~ is free, it isn't a ram problem.

you can try this, in your xref files, purge, audit and overkill and clean as much as possible your files and install latest updates from autodesk and update your graphics card driver to the latest and see if helps. thanks
