Hi,
you can use both, AutoCAD and Revit.
Revit will make it more easy for architectural design as it has already components and materials for wall, window, door, stairs, ... in AutoCAD you have to create all these manually.
As you mentioned "looks kind of real" I would more think about creating the geometry in AutoCAD or Revit, but then use 3DS-Max as this is the much better rendering product, to get close to photo realistic.
